Weekly Treatment Program Description |
|||||||
|
Initially, these therapy programs may start out as a monthly group so it can be in conjunction with or as an adjunct to a support groups serving as programming for persons with the progressive neurological disease. Each group will be designed and implemented by a licensed clinician, who has an expertise with a given progressive neurological disorder. Once the participants and their family members become accustomed to the therapy program, it can transition into a weekly group. The purpose of the weekly group is to break the sedentary lifestyle associated with progressive neurological disease, and to teach the individual with the progressive neurological disease effective strategies to maintain functional skills and mobility. A typical weekly therapy program will last one to two hours and the family members drops them off and returns as the group ends. The rationale for this is to provide a brief respite for the family member while their loved one is being cared for by another person. This is an opportunity for students who are seeking volunteer hours to participate in a program which has a limited commitment of time and effort.
